Columbus Day parade steps off Sunday, Oct. 10

LONG BRANCH — The Long Branch/West Long Branch Columbus Day parade will be held Sunday, Oct. 10.

The parade steps off at 12:45 p.m. from the Vantage Point office complex on Route 36 and proceeds up Broadway for approximately 1.5 miles.

The Columbus Day parade has a long history in the city of Long Branch and West Long Branch Borough, dating back to 1946, and reflects the area’s diverse nationalities.

Parade participants include bands from Long Branch High School, Shore Regional High School, Monmouth Regional High School, Rumson-Fair Haven Regional High School, as well as antique cars, floats, Boy and Girl Scout troops, and state and county officials.

This year’s grand marshal will be Jack Caputo, former owner and operator of Caputo’s Bakery in Long Branch. The Caputo family opened its first Jersey Shore bakery on South Broadway in 1961. Jack’s son, Joseph, now operates the bakery located in Ursula Plaza.
