Hurricanes finish undefeated season
The Jersey Shore Hurricanes, an 11U travel baseball team, capped a perfect spring season in the USOTB (United States Over Thirty Baseball) by capturing the league championship.
The Hurricanes, who consist of players from Shrewsbury and Ocean Township, went 9-0 during the regular season. In the playoffs, they defeated the Lakewood Black Sox to advance to the championship final, where they defeated the Oceanport Spartans, 8-1, to lift their final record to 11-0.
The Hurricanes won in fall 2009 as well as in the USOTB Fall League with an 11-2 overall record. Their USOTB record the last two seasons is 21-2.
The Hurricanes are Connor McCarthy, Tate Nelson, Ryan Garley, Jack Mangold, Miles Svikhart, Michael Conley, Jake McIntyre, Kevin Laughlin, Matthew Santos, Erick Schoenberger and Bryce Wheary.
Schoenberger and Wheary are from Ocean Township and every one else on the Hurricanes is from Shrewsbury.
Mike Conley, Tom Laughlin, Shawn Santos and Rob Mangold are the coaches.
The USOTB provides competitive youth travel baseball competition for teams from throughout the state. The Hurricanes’ league consists of teams from Central Jersey.
