      Lancers win state title
           It’s March, which in high school girls basketball means it’s St. John Vianney time. No program in the state has mastered state championship basketball like the Lancers. Last week they won the NJSIAA Non-Public South A and Non-Public A state titles for the 14th time each and advanced to the Tournament of Champions, where they are the defending champions.

      Running Club’s St. Paddy’s race March 21
           If you missed celebrating St. Patrick’s Day on March 17, the Freehold Area Running Club has an answer for you. That is, if you are a runner. On March 21 the club will present the 21st annual Nestle Beverage Co. St. Paddy’s 10- Mile Race and its accompanying Leprechaun 5K at Michael J. Tighe Park, Georgia Road, Freehold Township.

      Aerials gymnasts soar to state championship
           It was a wonderful Valentine’s Day for Aerials Gymnastics. Scoring an all-time high team score of 91.225, Aerials captured the Jersey Optional Gymnastics Association State Championship.

      RBC’s McNamara is All-American
           Red Bank Catholic’s Molly McNmara capped her outstanding indoor track and field season by earning All- American honors at the Nike Indoor Nationals (NIN). The junior finished fifth in the 800- meter run (2:13.37) at the NIN held in the Reggie Lewis Center in Boston, Mass., to win her AA certificate.

      Rumson’s Podesta ranked No. 1 in tennis for third time
           Rumson’s Nicholas Podesta continues to dominate his age division in tennis. For the third time, the eighth-grader at the Ranney School has been ranked No. 1 in the East by the United States Tennis Association (USTA). Podesta was ranked No. 1 for 2009 in the Boys 14-Under Division. Previously, he was ranked No. 1 in 12-Under (2008) and 10-Under (2006).
