Pedestrians struck by auto

West Long Branch police responded to a report of pedestrians struck by an auto on Oceanport Avenue between Rivington Avenue and Route 36 at approximately 9:10 p.m. Friday, March 5.

According to a press release from the West Long Branch Police Department, when they arrived at the scene, police discovered that Robert Hutting, 56, and Pamela Moore Clarke, 51, of Eatontown, had been struck by a vehicle traveling northbound on Oceanport Avenue.

Hutting and Moore Clarke had apparently been crossing the street when they were struck by a 2001 Lincoln Continental operated by Arthur Drazner, 65, of West Palm Beach, Fla., according to the press release.

Hutting sustained extensive and severe physical injuries, according to police. Emergency medical care was administered at the scene initially by West Long Branch Police Patrolman Jeffrey Hanlon and West Long Branch Firefighters David and Timothy Phillips.

Moore Clarke was also injured. Onscene assistance was rendered by West Long Branch police, fire and first aid, as well as MONOC paramedics and the Eatontown and Oceanport first aid squads. Hutting, Moore Clarke and Drazner were all transported to area hospitals. Hutting was transported to Jersey Shore University Medical Center’s Trauma Unit in Neptune.

Cpl. Archie C. Symonds issued one summons to Hutting for failing to cross at the crosswalk.

The Monmouth County Serious Collision Analysis Response Team (SCART) responded to assist with the investigation, as did West Long Branch Police Detective Marlowe Botti.
