The Association of Descendants of Veterans of World War II Italian Campaign is touring Italy and the American battlefield cemeteries in September. Veterans, their families, children and grandchildren will visit Rome, Venice, Florence, Pisa, Cassino, Salerno and the military cemeteries at Florence an Anzio-Nettuno to honor and remember those 24,000 combat soldiers and Navy men who gave their lives. The Monmouth Beach School PTA along with the Jersey Shore Running Club will host the sixth annual 3-mile run/walk at 9 a.m. May 8. The 2010 fishing permits required for night fishing at Sandy Hook, Gateway National Recreation Area, are now available. Permits are $50 and can be obtained in-person only by check, cash or money order at the Sandy Hook Visitor Center (open 10 a.m.-5 p.m. daily) and the Sandy Hook Ranger Station. The annual gala fundraiser for Michael’s Feat (Michael Gerard Puharic Memorial Fund), which celebrates 10 years of assisting families of seriously ill newborns, will be held March 26 at Battleground Country Club in Manalapan. This year’s honorees will be the nurses from the neonatal intensive care units at Jersey Shore University Medical Center and Monmouth Medical Center.
