A team of seventh- and eighth-graders from the Seashore School in Long Branch swept the Fall Middle School Tournament held at MAST Oct. 23, outscoring 28 teams by winning all five rounds in the modified "Jeopardy"-style tournament. Each match consisted of six categories with questions in language arts, history, science, math, arts, New Jersey and miscellaneous. Seashore's team fielded questions ranging from whose signature is first on the Declaration of Independence to the formula for glucose. The nonprofit Garden State Film Festival, Asbury Park, will hold a bachelor auction 6:30 p.m. Nov. 5 at Oyster Point, Bodman Place, Red Bank. The fundraiser will feature men from age 24-64, with bachelors' bios available at www.gsff.org. Tickets are $60 each or $50 each for a table of 10, and include dinner, a guaranteed introduction to each bachelor and a goodie bag. Sponsorships are available at $250 and higher. Friends of the Eatontown Public Library is seeking new members to plan, promote or take part in programs designed to support and expand library use. The library is at 33 Broad St. Programs include a biannual book sale, Family Night activities such as story time and Family Pajama Night, and special programs for children and adults such as puppet shows, movies and the summer reading program. The first edition of Beauty and the Beach 5 Mile Run and Walk for Women will take place 9 a.m. Nov. 7 at Pier Village. All proceeds benefit Aslan Youth Ministries. Red Bank. The Art Society of Monmouth County will meet fro 10:30 a.m. to noon Nov.18 at Monmouth Beach Cultural Center, 128 Ocean Ave. Sharon Hathaway will give a talk about painting the acrylic landscape. Her paintings may be seen at Beacon Fine Arts Gallery, Red Bank, where she is the gallery manager. The Greater Township of Ocean Democratic Club (serving Ocean, Allenhurst, Interlaken and Loch Arbour) will sponsor a program by Cynthia Zipf 7:30 p.m. Nov. 19 at the West Park Recreation Complex, 615 West Park Ave., Oakhurst section of Ocean Township. Zipf is executive director of Clean Ocean Action, Highlands, and the Coastal Steward of the Year Award winner. She will discuss ocean and coastal resource management and the three liquefied natural gas (LNG) industrial project proposals off the New Jersey and New York coasts. The program is free and open to the public, and nonmembers are invited to join the club. A short club business meeting will precede the program. Desserts and beverages will be served.
