      FISH programs Sept. 26, Oct. 4 at Hook
            The New Jersey Marine Sciences Consortium/ New Jersey Sea Grant. Sandy Hook, is offering its Families Investigate Science Hands-on (FISH) program using the beaches and bay at Sandy Hook as coastal classrooms for students. "Terrific Terrapins" will be offered at 11 a.m. and "Incredible Crustaceans" at 2 p.m., both Sept. 26. "On Sandy Shores" will be held at 11 a.m.

      Block party and pooch parade Sept. 26
            LONG BRANCH — The first Long Branch Block Party and Pooch Parade will be held in West End on Sept. 26. The block party is a family event that will run from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Brighton Avenue, between Ocean and Second Avenue, and West End Park.

      Foundation slates Surf Jam, 5K, golf day
            MONMOUTH BEACH — The Shana Foundation, Monmouth Beach, will present The Shana Surf Jam on Saturday, Sept. 26, 8 a.m. at the Monmouth Beach Bathing Pavilion, Ocean Avenue. The fundraiser is open to surfers ranging in age from youth to adult, on short boards, body boards and long boards. It will feature live music, vendors, various foods, prizes and awards.

      Entries sought for film festival
            The Garden State Film Festival, Asbury Park, is accepting entries from independent filmmakers, with the deadline for submissions Dec. 1. The 2010 festival will be held March 25-28 at the Paramount Theater in Asbury Park. Entries will be judged in several categories, including a category for trailers added this year.
