The music honor society at Ranney Middle School, Tinton Falls, has been named the 2008-09 Tri-M Chapter of the Year in the junior division by the National Association for Musical Education. The chapter was chosen from 375 junior chapters worldwide and will receive an $800 scholarship for summer music study. Ranney's members organized activities for Music In Our Schools week and collected musical toys for the Toys for Tots drive.

The Jewish Community Center (JCC), 100 Grant Ave., Deal, will hold its ninth annual 5K race/walk 8:30 a.m. July 19, with check-in 7 a.m. The race will wind through the residential areas of the area.
