      L.B. city hall driving middle class out of town
            At a recent city council hearing on this year's tax increase, Adam Schneider said that compared to other towns, Long Branch is "in better shape." I think most taxpayers would dispute that statement, since for almost 20 years straight this mayor has boosted our taxes virtually every year.

      Agency essential in curbing rise of teen pregnancy
            May is National Teen Pregnancy Prevention Month. It is a sad fact that the U.S. teen birthrate has increased for the second year in a row, according to data from the National Center for Health Statistics. We have the highest rates of teen pregnancy among comparable countries. An estimated 750,000 American teens become pregnant each year.

      New act will ensure streets will be safe for all ages
            Our nation's transportation infrastructure is in dire need of an overhaul. Between 1993 and 2003, nearly 52,000 pedestrians and more than 7,400 bicyclists were killed in road accidents; studies show that designing streets with pedestrians in mind may reduce pedestrian risk by as much as 28 percent.

            An article about a tour of affordable housing sites in the May 14 editions of the Atlanticville incorrectly attributed statements to Joanne Conroy of the Monmouth County Association of Realtors. The statements should have been attributed to Joan Lorwey, a member of the association.
