Coastal Evacuation Route study open house June 2
The Monmouth County Planning Board will hold an open house for the public on the county's Coastal Evacuation Route Improvement Study on June 2.
The event will take place 4-7 p.m. in the Community Room at the Long Branch Higher Education Center, 213 Broadway, Long Branch.
The study has evaluated some of the transportation routes used for evacuation of Monmouth County coastal areas in the event of flooding and other emergencies and explored a wide range of options and opportunities to improve the evacuation network.
These include evaluating locations where problems have occurred in the past, and identifying new potential emergency evacuation routes in the study area.
"The ultimate goal is to get people out of an inundation zone as quickly and safely as possible during times of disaster," says Monmouth County Deputy Freeholder Director John D'Amico Jr.
At the open house, consultants with Jacobs Civil Inc. will be available to discuss transportation facility design and operational improvement strategies, as well as intelligent transportation system (ITS) technology strategies to better manage seasonal traffic congestion and emergency evacuation needs.
The public will have an opportunity to ask location-specific questions about recommended improvements. Information will be available on time frames and estimated costs to implement these improvements.
A final report is targeted for completion in the summer. Additional information in the study is available on the project website: www.monmouthcers.com.
