The Eatontown Lions Club will support the Jersey Shore Running Club at its Sandy Hook Lighthouse 5K Fun Run/Walk for the Blind at 9:30 a.m. May 2. A class will also be 6-10 p.m. May 28 and June 2 at Monmouth Beach Cultural Center, 128 Ocean Ave. Individuals successfully completing the course will be eligible to receive a State Boating Safety Certificate. Offered will be annuals, perennials, herbs, vegetables, and geraniums. New this year is "Garden in a Box," featuring in one container a collection of shade and/or sun plants that grow well together. There will also be container gardens with a variety of plants, and perennials grown by club members. The fundraiser benefits the club's civic projects, such as maintenance of plants at borough hall and the Allen House. The public is welcome. They were part of a team of Seashore fifth- and sixth-graders who took first place in two events and second place in three events at the competition, which challenged students' physical and cognitive abilities. The event was held April 22 at Park Middle School in Scotch Plains. |
