Registration open for church choirs
      Registration is now open for "How Sweet the Sound," a national choir competition. The competition, sponsored by Verizon Wireless, gives church choirs in 11 cities a chance to win the title of "The Best Church Choir in America" and up to $50,000 in cash and prizes. Locally, the competition will be held Sept.

Art Par Excellence exhibit opens March 22
      VSA arts of New Jersey (VSA/NJ), New Brunswick, will debut and hold an opening reception for its 2009 Art Par Excellence exhibit with artwork by students with disabilities 3 p.m. March 22 at Art Way Gallery at the Princeton Alliance Church, Plainsboro. The exhibit will be displayed through April 18.

Walk to Defeat ALS slated for April 26
      The ALS Association Greater New York Chapter will host the Walk to Defeat ALS 11 a.m. April 26 beginning at the amphitheater at beachfront north, Ocean Boulevard and Cooper Avenue, Long Branch. The three-mile walk will proceed along the promenade. Check in is 10 a.m., and the walk 11 a.m.
