City man sentenced for bank robberies
ALong Branch man was sentenced March 30 to 175 months in federal prison for committing two bank robberies in Atlantic County, according to a press release from the U.S. Attorney's Office.
Douglas Kissel, 41, was arrested on Sept. 6, 2008, in a hotel room at the Tropicana Casino and Resort in Atlantic City by special agents with the FBI's Atlantic City resident agency and officers with the police departments of Absecon and Northfield, according to the press release.
On Dec. 17, 2008, Kissel pleaded guilty to a two-count federal information that charged him with bank robbery, the release stated.
At his plea hearing, Kissel admitted that on Aug. 23, 2008, he entered a Commerce Bank branch located on the White Horse Pike in Absecon with the intent of robbing the bank, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office.
Kissel admitted that after he entered the bank, he approached a teller and gave the teller a note that demanded $100 bills. He also demanded that the teller give him the cash from the teller's second cash drawer and the drawer at another teller station.
Kissel admitted he fled the bank with approximately $7,080, the release said.
Furthermore, Kissel admitted that on Sept. 3, 2008, he entered a Sun National Bank branch located on Tilton Road in Northfield with the intent to rob the bank. After entering the bank, Kissel approached a teller and demanded that the teller open the cash drawer and give him money. Kissel also admitted he gave the teller a demand note, informing the teller that it was a robbery and that he wanted $100, $50 and $20 bills. Kissel admitted he fled the bank with approximately $4,354, according to the press release.
