YArts to hold open house tonight
      The Community YMCA, Middletown, is expanding local YArts programming for children, teens, adults and seniors in the communities of Hazlet and Long Branch. Audubon bird walk at Tatum Park Sept. 20
      Monmouth County Audubon Society will hold a bird walk 9 a.m. Sept. 20 at Tatum Park, Red Hill Road, Middletown (rain or shine). The bird walk will be led by Bob Henschel, president of the Society, who works for the Monmouth County Park System at the Manasquan Reservoir. Attendees will walk a portion of one of the park's trails looking for birds.

Elks Foundation MVS Scholarships available
      The Elks National Foundation is now accepting applications for its Most Valuable Student (MVS) Scholarship. Deadline to apply is Jan. 9. The Foundation awards 18 top winners scholarships ranging from $8,000-$60,000 over four years, and the remaining 482 runners-up receive $4,000 scholarships over four years.

      Prevention First, Ocean Township, will host the eighth annual ChessFest Sept. 27 in Asbury Park. The event will benefit the approximately 14,000 youth and adult participants worldwide. It is also geared to set a new Guinness record for the most chess games played simultaneously in one location. The festival attracts several of the world's finest chess players.
