      BOE appoints business administrator

      BY DANIEL HOWLEY Staff Writer

EATONTOWN — The Board of Education (BOE) appointed a full-time school business administrator to fill the post that has been served as a part-time position for nearly two years.

At the Aug. 25 BOE meeting, members voted to appoint Robert Green, 37, to serve as the school business administrator.

"I'm very excited about this," Eatontown Superintendent Barbara Struble said. "We needed a full-time business administrator here because the interim business administrator was only part-time.

"Green is young and brings a lot of energy and enthusiasm to the job," she added.

The Eatontown school district has been without a full-time business administrator since the previous administrator resigned in 2006 to take a job elsewhere, Struble explained.

Since 2006, Dominic Carrea has been working part-time as the district's interim business administrator. Carrea's contract called for him to work for the district on a part-time basis through the 2006-07 school year, with an option to work through 2007- 08.

The BOE had gone out to bid for a new full-time administrator twice before hiring Green, Struble explained.

"The first time we went out to bid, [the applicants'] salaries were higher than we were able to pay," Struble said. "So we went out a second time. We had very few candidates."

Green's contract will be retroactive, according to Struble, who said the term is from July 1, 2008, until June 30, 2009.

The contract also calls for Green to receive a $95,000 annual salary, which will be appropriated from the district's 2008-09 school budget.

Green has been working as the board's administrator since June 2 and said that he has enjoyed working in the school system.

He cited some of the district's recent accomplishments, including the completion of a repaving project at the Meadow Brook and Vetter elementary schools as reasons for his excitement continue working in the district.

"I like the idea that the district's buildings are in excellent condition," Green said. "It's well rounded academically. It's a good education system, and I enjoyed the interviews with the superintendent."

Green said that he has nine years of relevant experience in business office management.

"I was a junior accountant in Brick for three years and an assistant business administrator and a business administrator in a different district for two years," he said.
