      Veterans' benefit concert Sept. 11 in Long Branch
            3 Zero Records, Shore Points Music, The Celtic Cottage and local musicians will present a benefit concert 8 p.m. Sept. 11 at The Celtic Cottage, 608 Second Ave., Long Branch. Featured performers include John Rose, and local bands The Beatless and The Wag performing popular rock music and original songs.

      Citizens Police Academy sign-up deadline is Sept. 8
            Applications are now being accepted for enrollment in the 14th annual Citizen Police Academy held at the Monmouth County Police Academy, Freehold Township. Classes begin Sept. 18, and the deadline to apply is Sept. 8. Applications are available to Monmouth County residents age 21 or older who have no criminal record. Enrollment is limited.

      Bilingual sessions begin Sept. 16 at Poricy Park
            Poricy Park Conservancy, Oak Hill Road, Middletown, will offer a new bilingual program, Semillitas (Little Seeds) for children in pre-K and kindergarten. Kindergarten Enrichment will be held for 15 sessions 9:30-11:30 a.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays Sept. 16-Nov. 20 (no sessions Sept. 30; Oct. 9; and Nov. 4, 6 and 11). Fee is $210 for nonmembers, and $165 for members.

      Diocese looks at restructuring parishes
            Bishop John M. Smith of the Diocese of Trenton received recommendations for parish restructuring in the Monmouth Central Deanery in mid-August. The deanery study was a yearlong process based on research, analysis and consultation by three delegates from each of the participating parishes, as well as input from parish communities.

      Oceans of Rhythm Festival Sept. 13 in Long Branch
            Zeybrah's annual Oceans of Rhythm Festival 2008 in conjunction with Long Branch Day will be Sept. 13 at Jerry Morgan Park, Liberty Street, Long Branch. The first show will be 3 p.m. at the park, and the second show and procession 5 p.m. at the park and ending on the great lawn near Cooper Avenue.

      Blood drive in Eatontown slated for Sept. 13
            New Jersey Blood Services (NJBS) will hold a blood drive noon-8 p.m. Sept. 13 at Monmouth Mall, Eatontown. There is a blood emergency this summer, and supplies are falling into the three-day supply danger zone, according to NJBS. All donors receive free mini-medical exams on site. Donors must be age 17 or older, weigh a minimum of 110 pounds, and be in good health.
