      Vision check can open doors for children
            I'm writing to commend Gov. Jon Corzine for recently declaring August Children's Vision and Learning Month in New Jersey. The goal of this observance is to help educate parents and teachers about the critical link between vision and learning.

            One in eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime. We want to change that statistic. I am the team captain for the Contemporary Plastic Surgery Race for the Cure Team. Dr. Robert Herbstman has been supporting a Race for the Cure team for 10 years. We want to collaborate to find a cure.

      Children of New Jersey need advocates to prevent child abuse
            Like most New Jerseyans, I was horrified to learn of the Paterson mother who stabbed her 6 month-old infant to death. While it's unimaginable to comprehend the choice to harm a child, I found myself plagued with uneasy questions about how the tragedy came to be.

      Police, borough workers should be town's top priority
            It looks like Monmouth Beach officials are bypassing the people who perform the necessary functions in town — the police department, which is asking for something that is fair, and the borough workers, who deserve a new contract.
