Prevention First, Ocean Township, will host a Day at the Races 11:30 a.m. Aug. 24 at Monmouth Park Race Track, Oceanport.

The event is themed after the 1937 Marx brothers film, "A Day at the Races," and impersonators Groucho and Harpo will entertain guests during lunch. There will also be a chance auction for children featuring themed baskets including Hannah Montana, and Webkins. Included in admission will be pony rides, face painting, clowns and music. Admission is $40, and $20 for children younger than age 12. Proceeds from both benefit Prevention First's educational programs for children and teens. For tickets, visit www.preventionfirst. net. Prevention First's ninth annual Chess- Fest 2008 for children age 5-18 will be 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Sept. 27 at the Fifth Avenue Boardwalk, Asbury Park. Special guest will be international grandmaster MauriceAshley. The event will showcase chess masters and experts working with all registered participants. Trophies will be awarded to those who checkmate or draw the chess masters. There will be a human chess game featuring children and chess masters as playing figures on a life-sized chessboard. Registration is free, and the first 50 children receive a free chess set and T-shirt.
