            The Ocean Township Branch of the Monmouth County Library, 701 Deal Road, will hold free programs during August beginning with an adult book club discussion of "Little Children" by Tom Perrotta 7 p.m. Aug. 4. Books may be borrowed from the library.

      Entries accepted for Indik Wordsmith Competition
            The Unlimited Theater Company (UPTCo) of New Brunswick, a project of VSA arts of New Jersey (VSA/NJ), is seeking poems, essays, short stories and plays for the 15th annual Joyce Indik New Jersey Wordsmith Competition. Residents of New Jersey who are 18 years of age or over are eligible.

      Mon. Medical recognized for high standards
            Monmouth Medical Center, Long Branch, was awarded $124,375 for meeting high quality standards and safe patient outcomes as a part of Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey's Hospital Recognition Program. Monmouth was one of six St. Barnabas Medical System hospitals recognized under this program, with the St. Barnabas facilities receiving a total of $705,000.

      Eighth annual ChessFest slated for Sept. 27
            Prevention First, Ocean Township, will host the eighth annual ChessFest Sept. 27 in Asbury Park. The event will benefit the approximately 14,000 youth and adult participants worldwide. It is also geared to set a new Guinness record for the most chess games played simultaneously in one location. The festival attracts several of the world's finest chess players.
