Eighth annual ChessFest slated for Sept. 27
      Prevention First, Ocean Township, will host the eighth annual ChessFest Sept. 27 in Asbury Park. The event will benefit the approximately 14,000 youth and adult participants worldwide. It is also geared to set a new Guinness record for the most chess games played simultaneously in one location. The festival attracts several of the world's finest chess players.

Talk on psychotropic pharmacology July 16
      The Monmouth University, West Long Branch, will present "Psychotropic Pharmacology for Healthcare Providers," July 16 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at The Club at Magill Commons. The program is designed to help practitioners gain an understanding of basic neurobiology and the effect of pharmaceutical treatment on the behavior of individuals with mental health disorders.

Annual McDonald House golf event July 14
      The 15th annual Ronald McDonald House golf tournament fundraiser will be held July 14 at Jumping Brook Country Club, Neptune. Shotgun start is 1 p.m. A buffet awards dinner and silent auction will follow. There will be several hole-in-one contests with prizes such as $10,000 or a new vehicle. Entry fee is $325 per person, and the event is limited to 120 golfers.

      Local fitness specialist Steven Loder ("Coach Steve") will conduct for 12 Beach Fitness Boot Camp sessions for women 7:15 a.m. and 8 a.m. July 14 at West End Beach, West End section of Long Branch. Monday and Wednesday sessions are now forming.

Register for Monmouth Conservatory's camps
      The nonprofit Monmouth Conservatory of Music, 50 White St., Red Bank, is taking registration for its summer music programs that begin July 14. Music camp for ages 6-8 includes chorus, keyboard and other musical activities. Tuition is $250 per week. Strings camp is for beginning and intermediate players with at least one-year experience. Chorus experience is included.

Monmouth University computer camps offered
      Monmouth University, West Long Branch, has announced it will offer two sessions of summer computer camp for students, directed by Shauna L. Schubiger. A camp for students ages 14-17 interested in learning how to make a Web site or a movie using a digital video camera will be held July 14-18 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The cost is $630 and includes lunch.
