L.B. poetry series July 23, 30

The Long Branch Summer Poetry Series continues Wednesday, July 23, with an appearance by one of the founders of the Language Poetry movement.

An accomplished essayist and speaker as well as a sought-after editor, translator and academic, New York native Charles Bernstein has expanded upon the ideas of Marx, Wittgenstein and Stein to develop a postmodern poetic form (named after his influential L=A=N=G=U=A=G=E Magazine) that's long inspired debate, even as it continues to evolve.

Following a 6:30 p.m. reception, the program will begin at 7 p.m. at the Lumia Theater at 179 Broadway, with Bernstein delivering selections from his collected poems and speeches.

The Summer Poetry Series will conclude on Wednesday, July 30, with two very different poets, each representing a distinct era, stylistic school and localized scene. All events will be presented in New Jersey Repertory's Lumia Theatre, located at 179 Broadway in Long Branch. Admission is $5; seating is limited, and reservations, which are recommended, can be made by calling 732-229-3166.
