New SPCA thrift shop expected to open in August

EATONTOWN - The Monmouth County SPCA thrift shop is expected to be up and running this summer, months before a renovation project at the main building is complete.

While a massive renovation of the SPCA structure on Wall Street in Eatontown is under way, animals, staff and volunteers are making sacrifices, waiting for the vast improvement that will come at completion of the project, according to a press release from the SPCA.

The SPCA directors, however, did not want to lose operation of their thrift shop during the entire time it takes for the completion of the project, since it is a major source of revenue for the nonprofit organization.

Plans for the new thrift shop building had included a large open space first floor to be constructed for the shop, with the caretaker's apartment upstairs.

According to the SPCA, RBAHomes of Red Bank proposed using a "hybrid" building approach, which calls for framing the first floor traditionally and using modular units for the second-floor residence.

Once the first floor was framed, two modular units were sent to Eatontown on May 12 and were installed the following day, according to the release. The SPCA is anticipating that the thrift shop will be open inAugust, long before the renovation at the main building is complete.
