ALS fundraiser at local eyewear store May 3, 4
      Optical Elements, Pier Village, Long Branch, will sponsor a fundraiser for the ALS Association Greater New York Chapter, May 3 and 4. The eyewear store owned by Kevin Johnston, Long Branch, will donate 10 percent of sales to the ALS Association during the event.

Audubon Society field trip at Allaire May 3
      Monmouth County Audubon Society will host its annual field trip to Allaire State Park, Wall Township, May 3 from 8:15 a.m. to noon beginning in the park's parking lot (rain or shine). Attendees may see migrants such as the scarlet tanager, rose-breasted grosbeak, flycatchers and almost 15 species of warblers.

      The American Heart Association (AHA) will hold its sixth annual "Go Red For Women" luncheon May 5 at The Palace at Somerset Park, Somerset. The luncheon is designed to provide women with information, resources, hope and steps to take charge of cardiovascular health. It will feature educational sessions, a reception, silent auction, luncheon and survivor stories.

Jersey Shore Marathon to head through Mon. Beach
      Monmouth Beach residents should be aware of road closures and traffic delays until mid-afternoon on May 4 due to the Jersey Shore Marathon. The race will start at Rooney's Crab House on the Promenade in Long Branch and the route will continue into Monmouth Beach from Columbia Avenue onto Riverdale Avenue.

      The education foundation of the Eastern Monmouth Area Chamber of Commerce (EMACC) has announced its 2008 scholarship program, with deadline to file May 2 for one of the $1,250 scholarships. Students entering junior or senior year of college, adults returning to college and individuals pursuing vocational interests are eligible to apply.

DVRT training to begin April 28 in Freehold
      180-Turning Lives Around, Hazlet, will conduct a 40-hour training for domestic violence response team (DVRT) volunteers Mondays-Wednesdays from 6:30-9:30 p.m. April 28-May 22 at Monmouth County Police Academy, Freehold. Volunteers work in conjunction with the police to provide support, information, and referrals to victims of domestic violence at police headquarters.

'Aging With Grace' art show to open May 5
      The SCAN Learning Center, Monmouth Mall, Eatontown, will host its annual Older Americans Expo, "Aging With Grace," May 14 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The juried, all-media art show can be viewed May 5-30. It will feature more than 30 exhibitors. The event is free, open to the public and there will be giveaways and door prizes.
