      Writing course, open house at Brookdale
            Brookdale Community College, Lincroft section of Middletown, will offer "Free Yourself to Write" taught by Helene Kylen, freelance mental health writer and editor, March 29-May 3 from 9:30 a.m.-noon. The writing course will include unblocking methods, projective techniques and other topics. Class is limited to 10 students. Fee is $109 and course code XWRIT 029 PR.

      Deadline is April 14 to enter poster contest
            The Regency Alliance on Senior Care, Hazlet, is sponsoring a poster contest for Monmouth County students in grades one through six, with entry deadline April 14. The theme is "My favorite memory of an older adult." Three winners will receive U.S. Savings Bonds from $50-$200 and will be invited to an award ceremony in May.

      Park system's free activities begin April 5
            Monmouth County Park System will offer free activities at Historic Longstreet Farm, Longstreet Road,Holmdel, beginning with a quilting demonstration April 5 from 1-3 p.m.Hand-sewn pieceswill be on display. Music Man Rich Marzec will perform tunes from the turn-of-the-century April 13 from 1-3 p.m. A blacksmith demonstration will also take place from1-3 p.m.

      'Family Challenge Course' March 27 at county park
            The Monmouth County Park System will host "Family Challenge Course" March 27 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Thompson Park, Newman Springs Road, Lincroft section of Middletown. Participants will climb a tubular cargo net and walk 35 feet up in the air on a series of cables while clipped to a pulley system to access a zip line.

      Reservations due April 1 for SPCA Casino Night
            The Monmouth County SPCA will hold a Casino Night dinner-dance April 12 from 6-11 p.m. at Robert Meyner Reception Center, PNC Bank Arts Center, Holmdel. Deadline for reservation is April 1. The event will feature various foods, an open bar, gambling, a raffle and music by Tim McLoone and the Shirleys.

            Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 2-3, Fort Monmouth, Eatontown, will hold America's boating courseApril 5,May 3 or May 17 from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Boat operators born in 1949 or later must have a N.J. Boating safety Certificate awarded upon satisfactory completion of the course. Fee is $55 per person for text and CD, certificate application and temporary certificate.
