"Engaging Shaw" by JohnMorogiello, with excerpts fromBernard Shaw, is making its New Jersey premiere through April 13 at New Jersey Repertory Company, 179 Broadway in Long Branch. Of all the great love stories in literary history, the pairing of playwright George Bernard Shaw and Charlotte Payne-Townshend may rank as the very least romantic. The blazingwit and comic poignancy of the unconventional Irish couple and their unlikely match is the centerpiece of this new play. Performances are Thursdays and Fridays at 8 p.m., Saturdays at 3 p.m. and 8 p.m., and Sundays at 2 p.m. Tickets are $35 for regular performances. The Rockit for Kids Band will appear as special guests. The Southern rock group's biggest hit, "Heard it in a Love Song," landed on both the Billboard Pop and County singles chart. Wednesday, April 9, 4:30-7:15 p.m., Wilson Auditorium: "Two Women," architectural students find their public and private lives turned upside down by the Iranian Revolution, as the new Islamic Republic ushers in drastic changes in the status of women.

Monday,April 21, 2:30-4:15 p.m.,Wilson Auditorium: "Strike," the story of Agnieszka, a worker in a Polish shipyard whose tireless advocacy of women's and workers' rights helps lead to the founding of the Solidarity movement.

The films show the contribution of individuals to themaking of revolution, and the impact of revolution on the individuals and society at large in Russia 1917-1920; Iran 1980; and Poland 1980-1981.

Monmouth University's Department of Communications will host the 27th annual

BlackMaria Filmand Video Festival on Monday, March 24, at 7:30 p.m. at the Pollak Theatre. The event is free and open to the public. The festival is an Academy Award-qualifying competition celebrating independent and experimental work. International in scope, the festival includes 50 to 60 pieces that travel to different venues. Each show is unique. The Monmouth screening will be about 90minutes and will include a variety of shorter works from this year's collection. The beauty of the soprano voice will be on display Saturday, March 29, when the

Monmouth Civic Chorus and orchestra perform Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's magnificent "Mass in C Minor." Mozart's graceful arias and duets will be sung by international soloists SungjiKimand Christine Reber.Also on the programare two eloquent works by the English Romantic master Ralph Vaughan Williams, inspired by two of the world's best-loved poets. "Toward the Unknown Region" brings us Walt Whitman's journey of the daring soul, and "Serenade toMusic" portrays Shakespeare's vision of the power of harmony. Irish poets will be at the podiumat the MiddletownMain Library onMarch 27 at 7 p.m. for the Last Thursday Poetry Reading and open mic session. The Monmouth Symphony Orchestrawill present a programof classicalmusic on Sunday,March 30, at 3 p.m. at the Count Basie Theatre, Red Bank.Apre-concert talk will take place at 2:15 p.m. The concert marks the conducting debut of Lucian Rinando, the orchestra's new assistant conductor. The programwill include theDouble Concerto for Clarinet, Viola and Orchestra in EMinor by Bruch, "TheWalk to the Paradise Garden" by Delius, symphonic poem "Viviane" by Chausson, and Symphony No. 1 in G Minor by Kalinnikov. The Middletown Main Library is celebrating Women's History Month with a women's suffrage satire byMichelle LaRue, "Someone Must Wash the Dishes: An Anti-Suffrage Monologue," Sunday, March 30, at 4 p.m. Many women fought against getting the vote in the early 1900s, but none with more charm, prettier clothes and less logic than the fictional speaker in this satiric monologue written in 1912 by pro-suffragist Marie Jenney Howe.
