      The New Jersey Marine Sciences Consortium (NJMSC), Sandy Hook, and its New Jersey Sea Grant college program are now accepting applications for Stew Tweed Fisheries and Aquaculture Scholarships. The $1,000 and $1,500 scholarships will be awarded in mid-May.

Acoustic guitars sought for Ugandan children
      Adrive for acoustic guitars for the children at Mbiriizi Primary School, Uganda, has been launched by the nonprofit Sylvia's Children, Holmdel. The nonprofit's founder, Sylvia Allen, visited the school in 2007 with her children, Tony and Michele, and other volunteers. Tony Allen taught the children with music lessons.

'Christmas in February' to benefit less fortunate
      The St. Vincent de Paul Society of Holy Trinity Church in Long Branch will host a "Christmas in February" party for the less fortunate in the city on Feb. 17 from1-4 p.m. in the Holy Trinity parish hall on Prospect Street.

Talent show to benefit Long Branch families
      The All Neighbors Foundation (ANF) is sponsoring an intercultural community talent show in celebration of Black History Month on Feb. 16 from7-10 p.m. at the Sea Shore Elementary School on Broadway. The ANF is seeking to partner with other organizations interested in co-sponsoring the event to benefit the community youth.

      The Citizens' Campaign is launching a series of Leadership Forums for Long Branch citizens to teach about the structure and how to effectively participate in local government. The next forum is scheduled to be held on Feb. 20 at the Long Branch Center of Brookdale Community College on Broadway. The title of the forum is "Path to Citizen Legislature Power.
