This weekend's Breeders' Cup has dominated conversation and the local social scene for weeks. The excitement has even spilled over into the art world where "The Breeders' Cup: An Exhibition in Celebration of Thoroughbred Racing" has opened at the Frederick Galleries in Allenhurst where it will run through Nov. 10.

"Monmouth Park Home Stretch" by Alexis Cuozzo The exhibit features artwork in oils, pastels, watercolors, photography and limited edition prints, offering something for everyone.

Works include black and white silver gelatin prints by Jerry Casciano on view in "You Bet Your Life."

Landscape paintings by the Plein Air Painters of the Jersey Coast are also part of the exhibit, including works by Alexis Cuozzo, Judy Stach, Dean Adams, Kuni Strange, Pratima Rao, Deborah Redden, Marcie Lopez and Mimi McCabe.

Photography by Bill Denver; official photographer for four major thoroughbred race tracks on the east coast, including Monmouth Park where the Breeders' Cup will be run.

Also included are oil paintings by Nick Savides; Brooklyn, N. Y.; pastel paintings by Alan Schaeffer; Fanwood; acrylic on watercolor paper paintings by Ellen Yung O'Dwyer: Colts Neck; "Appropriately, the thoroughbreds who run the race are also represented in "'Moneighs' Artwork by Famous Race Horses," whose sales will benefit ReRun Inc., a nonprofit thoroughbred adoption program for retired racehorses that aims to place them in good adoptive homes.

"A Day at the Office" by Jerry Casciano The paintings are created by encouraging the horses to dip their muzzles into a palette of paints and then to "smoosh" around on the paper. Some of the most famous artists included Cigar, Smarty Jones, John Henry and Kona Gold.
