      Local stars' selection a feather in state's cap
            Twenty years ago, there was Jim Dowd, and now there's James van Riemsdyk. Dowd is a veteran of 14 NHL seasons, who played this past season with the New Jersey Devils after becoming a local hockey legend growing up in Brick in the 1970s and 1980s.

      Hannay, Crist win Lake Takanassee opener
            Tak is back. The Lake Takanassee Road Race, sponsored by the Jersey Shore Athletic Club, began its 44th year Monday evening at the 5K circuit around the West Long Branch Lake. Matt Hannay had the distinction of winning the first race of the Summer of 2007, clocking 17:01 for the 5,000-meter race. James Register was runner-up (17:23) and Mike Chirico (17:52) was third.

      Anglers find there's still plenty of bass out there
            Ro n N uzzolo Fish On July is here, and the bass are still around.Find the bunker pods and you'll find the trophies. Along the beaches and under the bunker schools, anglers have been picking up some serious-size fish. Reports over the past two days claim that major pods of bait and fish have been showing up from Shark River all the way past Barnegat Inlet.
