Robert J. Smith

Mr. Smith, 52, of Sarasota, Fla., and formerly Long Branch, died May 21, 2007, at home. Born in the Bronx, N.Y., he resided in Long Branch prior to relocating to Sarasota nine years ago. He was a laborer for the Iron Workers Union. He enjoyed raising birds, playing golf and surfing. He was predeceased by his parents, Gertrude and George Smith. He is survived by a daughter, Jamie Plantamura of Long Branch; a brother and sister-in-law, Michael and Gail Smith of Murrells Inlet, S.C.; and a sister and brother-in-law, Barbara and Kenneth Metzler of Brick. A graveside service was held at Woodbine Cemetery, Oceanport. Arrangements were by Damiano Funeral Home, Long Branch. Helen M. Gregory

Mrs. Gregory, 84, of Long Branch, died May 30, 2007, at St. Barnabas Hospice and Palliative Care Center, Long Branch. Born in Taylor, Pa., she resided in Newark prior to relocating to Long Branch in 1948. She was a retiree of Bamberger's, Newark, where she was employed several years prior. She was a communicant of and Eucharistic Minister at Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church, Long Branch. She is survived by her husband, Frank Gregory; a son, Frank J. Gregory of the Oakhurst section of Ocean Township; three grandchildren; and four great-granddaughters. A Mass of Christian burial was at Holy Trinity Church. Interment was at Woodbine Cemetery, Oceanport. Arrangements were by Damiano Funeral Home, Long Branch. Memorial donations may be made to St. Barnabas Hospice and Palliative Care at Monmouth Medical Center, 95 Old Short Hills Road, West Orange 07052; or Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church, 408 Prospect St., Long Branch 07740.

Edward J. Radzik

Mr. Radzik, 71, of Tinton Falls died June 4, 2007, at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank. Born in Jersey City, he resided in Red Bank prior to relocating to Tinton Falls. He was employed at Karsu Distributors, Freehold, for 20 years, retiring in 2002. Prior to that, he was a machine operator at Western Electric, Kearny, for 30 years, retiring in 1984. He served with the U.S. Army. He enjoyed time with his family, and trips to Atlantic City. He was predeceased by a sister, Mary Nowakoski. He is survived by his wife, Patricia Radzik; two sons and daughters-in-law, Michael E. and Rose Radzik of Groveland, Fla., and Richard J. and Eldra Radzik of Tinton Falls; two daughters and sons-in-law, Diane and John Oliveras of Ocean Township, and Theresa and James Hughes of Oviedo, Fla.; and seven grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. James Roman Catholic Church, Red Bank. Interment was at Fair View Cemetery, Middletown. Arrangements were by John E. Day Funeral Home, Red Bank.

Anthony "Tony S." Scalzo

Mr. Scalzo, 81, of Rumson, died June 7, 2007, at Meridian Nursing & Rehabilitation, Red Bank. Born in Rumson, he was a lifelong resident. He was a clerk and letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service, Rumson, from age 14 until retirement. He also served as a shop steward while involved in the postal union, and owned Tony's Signs, Rumson, for several years. He was a devout Roman Catholic and supported several local Catholic churches. He was a life member of the Oceanic Hook & Ladder Fire Company, Rumson. He was predeceased by his wife, Mary P. Scalzo. He is survived by a son, Frank A. Scalzo of Fair Haven; a daughter, Cathie C. Scalzo of Fair Haven; three brothers and two sisters-in-law, William and June "Peggy" Scalzo, James and Evelyn Scalzo, and Samuel Scalzo, all of Rumson; three sisters and one brother-in-law, Concetta Orechio of Long Branch, Mary Calabretta of Rumson, and Barbara and William Boccellato of the River Plaza section of Middletown; and several nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at Church of the Nativity, Fair Haven. Interment was at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Middletown. Arrangements were by John E. Day Funeral Home, Red Bank. Memorial donations may be made to Oceanic Hook & Ladder Fire Company, West River Road, Rumson 07760.
