'Summer lite' on Shadow Lawn stage

Shadow Lawn Stage has announced a summer season of funny, whimsical and poignant plays.

Neil Simon's "Chapter Two" will be presented July 19- 29. Based in part on Simon's own life, the play mixes laughter with heartache. George Schneider, a writer whose wife has recently died, returns to a lonely apartment. His younger brother Leo, a theatrical press agent and born matchmaker, tries to snap George out of his emotional tailspin by supplying him with unwanted and unsuccessful dates.

A.R. Gurney's "Love Letters" will run Aug. 3- 5. "Love Letters" is the story of Andrew Makepeace Ladd III and Melissa Gardner, both born to wealth and privilege. They begin as childhood friends and carry on a lifelong correspondence that reveals how much they meant, and gave to, each other over the years - physically apart, but spiritually as close as only true lovers can be.

The 2007 season will be presented in Pollak Theatre on the campus of Monmouth University due to renovation of the Lauren Woods Theatre. Performances are at 8 p.m. Tickets are $45 and are available at the box office. For further information, visit www.monmouth.edu/shadowlawn or contact the box office at (732) 263-6889.
