Voters defeat WLB school district budget
Council approves $8.7M municipal spending plan

      WEST LONG BRANCH - The school district's $10.8 million school budget was defeated at the polls last week by a margin of more than 100 votes. Borough taxpayers voted down the spending plan for the 2007-08 school year on April 17 with 304 residents voting against the budget and 207 voting in its favor.

A survivor is living history
      On Tuesday, March 27, Long Branch Middle School seventh-grade students were invited to a special assembly where they had the honor of meeting Abe Chapnick, a Holocaust survivor. The seventh-grade class, consisting of nearly 400 students, was learning about the Holocaust in their social studies classes.

Poetry and coffee at the high school
      A "coffeehouse" was held at Long Branch High School the evening of March 21. It was an opportunity for students to showcase their talents including singing, dancing, acting, playing musical instruments and reading poems. A performance area with tables set up like a coffeehouse was staged in the cafeteria and refreshments were served.

MRHS school budget passed by slim margin
      TINTON FALLS - - Voters approved the 2007-08 spending plan of $18.4 million for Monmouth Regional High School by a margin of less than 50 votes. Voters in the district voted on a tax levy of $18,427,809, a 4 percent increase over last year. The regional school district is comprised of three towns: Eatontown, Tinton Falls and Shrewsbury Township.

TV studio debuts at L.B. Middle School
      A new and exciting program offered at the Long Branch Middle School is the broadcast journalism course. This is an elective that is open to students from in three special academy programs: Visual & Performing Arts Academy; Science & Computer Technology Academy; and Leadership Academy.

Students send treats to troops
      Imagine an entire school coming together to make batches and batches of Rice Krispies treats to send to U.S. troops overseas. That's exactly what students at Pope John XXIII Regional Catholic School, formerly St. Mary of the Assumption School, did for two former students and their buddies, now serving in the military.
