Apo, Fitzgerald are Shore Players of the Year
Sourlis, Golub coaches of the year

      St. John Vianney's Alisa Apo and Red Bank Regional's Kyle Fitzgerald were both named Player of the Year by the Shore Basketball Coaches. Apo, a senior who lives in Howell, brought the Lancers to prominence in 2006-07 behind her sparkling all-around play. She averaged 18 points a game to lead the offense and was just as valuable on defense, averaging 3.0 assists a game.

Monmouth Park to hold $4.4 million in stakes this summer
Races run from May 12 to Sept. 2
      OCEANPORT - Headed by the $1 million Grade 1 Haskell Invitational presented by Vonage on Sunday, Aug. 5, Monmouth Park will offer $3.75 million over 13 graded stakes for the 2007 meeting, which runs from May 12 through Sept. 2.

      More than 35 Summer Adventure and Jersey Blues sports camps await kids at Brookdale Community College's suburban 220-acre Lincroft campus, the Western Monmouth Campus in Freehold, the Wall Higher Education Center and Sandy Hook. Registration is now being accepted for one- and two-week programs scheduled for June 25 through Aug. 17.

Shore baseball has new look, same expectations

      When the Shore Regional baseball team takes the field for its season opener next week, there will be a host of new faces scattered around the diamond. However, despite some heavy losses to graduation, the Blue Devils still look to repeat their Class B Central dominance of a year ago, led by the return of six players, all of whom saw significant playing time last season.

      The Monmouth Beach School PTA will be hosting its annual three-mile run on May 12 at 9 a.m. The run has been renamed the Shana Wasserman Memorial Run in memory of former 19-year-old resident Shana Wasserman, who died in December of bacterial meningitis.
