Ocean, Long Branch thrive in District tourneys

      Both the Ocean Township and Long Branch High School wrestling teams entered their respective district wrestling tournaments hoping to capture the team title. Well, 1-for-2 ain't bad. Ocean Township, behind seven individual championships, was successful in its pursuit of the District 22 championship at Middletown South, holding off a strong Raritan team, 205.5 to 193.

      Bolstered by its home-grown talent, the Monmouth University men's track and field team won its third straight Northeast Conference Indoor Championship. The Hawks edged Sacred Heart, 117-115, in the competition held Feb. 10-11 in Landover, Md., thanks to a significant role played by Shore-area athletes.

      St. James Grammar School is accepting applications for a girls head softball coach (grades sixth, seventh, eighth) for the upcoming softball season. Practices will be held 2-3 times per week and games are played within the Parochial Grammar School League. The season runs from Mid-March through the end of May.
