Fiber art rich in color and texture
"Lady"
An exhibit of fiber art by Eleanor Elkin is at The Gallery on Grant at the Ruth Hyman Jewish Community Center in Deal.
The exhibit will run through Dec. 29 at the gallery, which is located adjacent to the Performing Arts Center at the JCC, 100 Grant Ave.
A meet-the-artist reception will be held Nov. 18, 6:30-8 p.m.
Elkin was a clinical social worker practicing psychotherapy for many years before entering the art world. She said she finds many satisfying similarities between the two fields - both allow for expression of deep emotion and are vehicles for humor and creativity.
Some of her tapestries and soft sculptures are literal, some abstract. Many contain creatures or figures that are part human. Some are humorous, some grim.
"I love the versatility of fiber art because of the limitless possibilities of color and texture," she said.
All of the pieces are for sale. Proceeds will go toward the JCC's cultural arts programs.
