Edward C. Worden III

Mr. Worden, 64, of Ocean Township, died June 23 at home. Born in Wilmington, Del., he resided in Claymont, Del., and Fair Haven before moving to Ocean Township. Mr. Worden was a writer at American Metal Market, New York City, for 15 years, retiring in 2002. Prior to that, he was a reporter for the Elizabeth Daily Journal. He served with the U.S. Army National Guard. He was a former member of Red Bank Elks Lodge 233 and a former member of Toastmasters International. He was named the 1985 Big Brother of the Year by Big Brothers Big Sisters of Monmouth County. Mr. Worden is survived by his wife of 34 years, Eleanor Yates Worden; two stepdaughters, Leslie Mader of Middletown and Connie Bowden of Blacksburg, Va.; two sisters, Velita Worden of Nevada City, Calif., and Vickie Worden of Bel Air, Md.; and six step-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held June 30 at 11 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church at Tower Hill in Red Bank. The Thompson Memorial Home, Red Bank, is in charge of arrangements. Andrew M. Peterson Jr.

Mr. Peterson, 57, of the Morgan section of Sayreville, died June 10 at home. He was predeceased by his parents, Virginia "Jean" Lockhart Peterson and Andrew M. Peterson Sr. Surviving are his wife, Nancy Ellison Peterson; a son, Marc Peterson, at home; a daughter, Kristi Peterson of West Long Branch; four brothers, Oliver, Richard and Walter Peterson, all of South Amboy, and Scott Peterson of Trenton; and a friend, Dimitrios Corodemus of West Long Branch. Services were held at Gundrum Service Home for Funerals, South Amboy. Interment was in Christ Church Cemetery, also South Amboy.

Susan E. Birzin

Mrs. Birzin, 64, of Ocean Township, died June 16 at St. Barnabas Hospice at Monmouth Medical Center, Long Branch. Born in Atlantic City, she resided in Absecon prior to moving to Ocean Township in 1967. She was an elementary school teacher at Hillel School, Ocean Township, for 23 years, retiring in 2001. Presently, she was a naturalist for the Monmouth County Park System, Lincroft section of Middletown. She was a parishioner at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church, Asbury Park. She is survived by her husband of 44 years, Alex Birzin; two sons and daughter-in-law, Alex F. and Elizabeth Birzin of Tinton Falls, and Thomas and Rachel Birzin of Ocean Township; a daughter and son-in-law, Andrea and Gustave Trozzi of Brick; her mother, Vivian DiPalma; and six grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at Mount Carmel Church. Arrangements were by Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, Freehold Township. Memorial donations may be made to St. Barnabas Hospice at Monmouth Medical Center, 95 Old Short Hills Road, West Orange 07052.

Dan Kullback

Dan Kullback, 16, of Manalapan, died June 18 in East Windsor. He was born in Opelousas, La., and was raised in Manalapan. Dan was a sophomore at Manalapan High School, where he was an active member of the sophomore student council and a member of both the boys track team and the freshman wrestling team. He also was a Boy Scout and a member of Aleph Zadik Aleph, B'nai B'rith. He was predeceased by his grandfather, Harvey Abramson. Surviving are his parents, Richard and Debra Kullback; his grandparents, Irving and Shirley Kullback of West Long Branch, and Sophia Abramson of Englishtown; his aunts and uncles, Janice and Bruce Wittmershaus of Erie, Pa., Shari and Bruce Canell of Marlboro, and Gwen and Byron Verosloff of Kendall Park; and several cousins. Services were held at Bloomfield-Cooper Jewish Chapels, Manalapan, followed by interment at Mount Sinai Cemetery, Lakewood.
