Shore Regional H.S. students (l-r) Christin Vivona, Frank Pobutkiewicz and Joana Pagones in the nation's capital. Christin Vivona, Joanna Pagones and Frank Pobtkiewicz, students at Shore Regional High School in West Long Branch, were among a group 15 New Jersey high schoolers who traveled to Washington, D.C., to lobby Congress on the No Child Left Behind Act in May. Among the legislators the students met with were Rep. Rush Holt (D-12), and Rep. Frank Pallone Jr. (D -6). The junket was part of STEP: Students Talking about Education Policy, an ongoing effort by the Institute for Domestic and International Affairs, to engage students in the dialogue that affects their education.

      The Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office and the Monmouth County Superintendent of Schools hosted a Teen Internet Safety Symposium on May 25 at the Long Branch Middle School.

      The event included an internet safety presentation by the Computer Crimes Unit of the Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office and the Cyber Crimes Unit of the New Jersey State Police.

      The event featured Monmouth County Prosecutor Luis A. Valentin, Monmouth County Superintendent of Schools Eugenia M. Lawson, New Jersey Attorney General Zulima Farber and Long Branch Superintendent Joseph M. Ferraina.

      The Italian American Memorial Association (IAMA), Brighton Avenue in Long Branch, hosts an all-you-can-eat spaghetti dinner on the last Friday night of every month from 5-7:30 p.m.

      The dinner costs $7, $6 for seniors, $3 for children ages 3 to 12 and is free for children under the age of 3.

      The Long Branch Historical Association held a meeting on Wednesday night that featured New Jersey poets Emanuel di Pasquale, Frank Finale, Gloria Rovder Healy, Charles H. Johnson, Madeline Tiger and Gretna Wilkinson.

      The poets read their works, which are included in the new anthology "The Poets of New Jersey."
