Students at the township of Ocean Intermediate School will present a musical comedy tribute to the 1960s titled "Groovy." Tickets are available at the door for $5 and performances are Thursday, May 4, at 7:30 p.m., Friday, May 5, at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday, May 6, at 2 p.m.

Monmouth Medical Center, in cooperation with Earth Treasures jewelers, sponsored an appearance by actor Jerry Maren, best known as the munchkin who portrayed "The Lollipop Kid" in the "Wizard of Oz," on Wednesday to benefit The Children's Hospital at Monmouth Medical Center.

Maren visited with patients and also met with visitors and staff to sell official movie memorabilia and personalized autographed items form the movie. Thirty percent of all proceeds from the sale of the movie merchandise will go directly to The Children's Hospital.

Mayoral candidate Alfie Lenkiewicz and the New Wave Team slate for council are scheduled to host a family rally on Friday at 6 p.m. at the Portuguese Club at 191 Broadway. The event will feature food, music and a silent auction and parking will be available at the rear of the building behind Brookdale Community College.

The Long Branch Senior Center on Second Avenue will host a book signing and lecture on how training the mind can influence the body's immune system and alter the course of disease on May 11 at 1 p.m. The free lecture will be presented by Phyllis Salvato, author of "Hypnosis, It's Not What You Think." The Ladies Auxiliary of the Veterans of Foreign Wars of America, Chapter 12, will sponsor an all-you-can-eat community roast beef dinner on Saturday, May 6, from 6-8 p.m. at the smoke-free dining room of the Gimbel Lehy Quirk VFW Post at 212 Norwood Ave. in Oakhurst. The donation is $12 person and the public is invited.

The Solomon Schechter Academy, Howell, and the Men's Club of Temple Beth Torah, Ocean Township, are co-sponsoring the 2006 Harvey S. Friedman Memorial Golf Outing on Thursday, May 18, at Woodlake County Club in Lakewood. The fee for golf, a golf cart, lunch and dinner is $175. A portion of the proceeds will benefit Golfers Against Cancer, a volunteer organization that raises funds for cancer research. The Ronald McDonald House of Long Branch will host its 16th annual gala fundraiser on Saturday at Branches in West Long Branch. All proceeds will benefit the Ronald McDonald Houses of Long Branch and New Brunswick.

The houses are used as a "home away from home" by families of seriously ill children receiving medical treatment at area hospitals.

The board of trustees of the Ronald McDonald House of Long Branch has chosen this year to honor Greg Berlanti, whose credits include executive producer of the TV show "Dawson's Creek," and writer and director of "The Broken Hearts Club."

The event will feature live music, a silent auction of themed gift baskets, jewelry, signed sports memorabilia, vacation stays and a 50/50 raffle for a weekend for two in New York City. To purchase rickets or for more information, call (732) 222-8755.

Representatives from the Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) of Canada visited Jersey Shore University Medical Center last Thursday to tour the Family Room operated by the Ronald McDonald House (RMH) of Long Branch, which opened in 2001. RMHC of Canada is in the process of developing the first Family Room in that country. The Family Room provides a quiet, comfortable area for families with children receiving treatment in the hospital.
