An evening of homespun Storytelling in the manner of radio host Garrison Keillor will be presented Saturday, Sept. 17, at 7:40 p.m. at the United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall, 247 Broad St., Red Bank. Storytellers will include Bob Schulman, Mary Carol Stunkel, Mary Johnson and Jim Flanagan. The event is a benefit for the scholarship fund of the Volunteer Center of Monmouth County. Goldenseal, a band headed by West Long Branch resident Joe Hughes, will perform Sept. 3 at 3 p.m. in West End Park in Long Branch during the annual Long Branch Beachfest. Goldenseal is an Asbury Music Award nominee and has played widely in the tri-state region. Lillian Hellman’s powerful drama “The Little Foxes” opens at First Avenue Playhouse in Atlantic Highlands on Sept. 2. The play presents an account of southern mores and social morality. Productions are every Thursday, Friday and Saturday at 8:30 p.m., with a Sunday matinee on Sept. 18 at 2:30 p.m. Doors open at 8 p.m. for complimentary dessert and coffee before the show and at 2 p.m. for the matinee. Brookdale Public Radio, 90.5 The NIGHT is offering an exclusive members-only event to see Bruce Springsteen’s “VH1 Storytellers” at Clearview Cinemas of Red Bank on Tuesday, Sept. 6, at 7 p.m. The event will feature the complete performance recorded at the Two River Theater in Red Bank. The solo performance is nearly two hours long and features a total of eight songs and Springsteen’s detailed comments, introductions and anecdotes on the songs’ origins, as well as a previously unseen question-and-answer session between the musician and his fans. A new stage version of the musical romance “The Umbrellas of Cherbourg” will open at the Two River Theater on Sept. 22. The sung-through tale of two star-crossed lovers has a jazz score by legendary composer Michel Legrand. The production will open the inaugural season in Two River Theater Company’s new performance space at 21 Bridge Ave. in Red Bank. The musical will run through Oct. 9, with performances Wednesday through Saturday at 8 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday matinees at 3 p.m. Tickets are $32-$48 and can

The Monmouth County Arts Council will host two fundraising events this month. Thursday, Sept. 29, at 7 p.m., MCAC will premiere the film “Capote” at 7 p.m. at Clearview Cinema, 36 White St., Red Bank. A reception prior to the film will be held 5-6:30 p.m. at Echo, 79 Monmouth St. On Friday, Sept. 30, from 6:30-8:30 p.m., MCAC will host a benefit cocktail party, “In Celebration of Excellence!” at the Shrewsbury Sailing and Yacht Club in Oceanport.
Tickets for the film and reception are $45, $40 for MCAC members, or $10 for the film only. Tickets for “In Celebration of Excellence!” are $75 and include a complimentary film ticket to the premiere of “Capote.” The evening will include a silent auction and entertainment provided by MCAC artists and performers. Ratamacue recording artists Jazzlamic will perform a tribute to John Coltrane at 7 p.m. Sept. 23 at El Lobo Negro Art Gallery, 519 Bangs Ave., Asbury Park. The program will feature renditions of the complete “Love Supreme” and “Blue Train” albums, as well as selections from “Impressions” and “Giant Steps.” Jazzlamic currently includes Chuck Welch, guitar; Dan Weeks, drums; Joe Peterson, bass; Cliff Pecota, saxophones; and Steve Jankowski, trumpet.
