The Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office, Bias Crime Unit, and the Monmouth County Human Relations Commission will present a workshop on the importance of reporting incidents of assault and other criminal activity and the rights of the reporting individual Aug. 27 at 8 p.m.
The free workshop will be at St. Anthony of Padua Church, Bridge Avenue, Red Bank.
It is intended for the Latino population, but is open to all members of the community. Presented in Spanish and English, it will emphasize how complaints are handled and ways to avoid becoming a victim of crime. Light refreshments will follow the presentation.

Raffle tickets now on sale for BCC golf event
The Brookdale Community College (BCC) Foundation is selling 400 raffle tickets at $20 each for a round of golf at the Hollywood Golf Club, Roseld Avenue, Deal, site of the foundation’s Sept. 22 “Education Open” charity golf tournament. The drawing is Sept. 1.
Proceeds will benefit the foundation’s scholarship and educational programs. Raffle winners may compete for the Corporate Cup at 8 a.m. the day of tournament, and join the club’s golf pro for one of three private lessons. The general tournament will begin at 1 p.m. and includes continental breakfast, golf carts, buffet luncheon, awards dinner, open bar and prizes.

Auxiliary’s trip to Atlantic City Aug. 20
The Ladies Auxiliary of the Italian American Men’s Association, 195 West End Ave., Long Branch, will host a bus trip to Harrah’s Casino, Atlantic City, Aug. 20 from 2-11 p.m. (approximate). The bus will depart the IAMA. Cost is $21 with a $20 refund and $5 quick cash (with valid ID).

Lecture on low-cholesterol diet offered
Monmouth Medical Center, Long Branch, will present the lecture “The Benefits of a Low-Cholesterol Diet” Aug. 17 from 1-3 p.m.
The program is free to SCAN (Senior Citizens Action Network) members, and membership is open to individuals ages 50 and older.

Volunteers sought to act as feeding assistants
Vitas Innovative Hospice Care of New Jersey North and New Jersey Shore, Eatontown, is seeking volunteers to act as feeding assistants for terminally ill nursing home residents.
Orientation classes will be given to volunteers, and all volunteers will be trained in communication skills, family dynamics, the dying experience, and ways to positively affect the resident and his or her family. Volunteers may assist as little as one hour.

The Arc takes part in Backpack Challenges
The Arc of Monmouth, Tinton Falls, and its self-advocacy group (SAG) recently took part in the Trenton Backpack Challenges to benefit New Jersey’s foster children.
Arc staff and families and SAG members went to The Arc’s day program locations to pick up items such as backpacks, school supplies, toys and baby
necessities.
The SAG consists of adults with developmental disabilities who meet to discuss and act on the group’s rights. It has performed community projects for facilities such as the Count Basie Learning Branch of the Community YMCA and the Division of Youth and Family Services.
Church’s annual peach festival Aug. 17
Oceanport United Methodist Church, 50 Main St., will hold its annual peach festival Aug. 17 from 6-8 p.m. Cost is $4, and $2 for children younger than age 12.

Center announces drives scheduled for August
Central Jersey Blood Center, Shrewsbury, has announced the following local blood drives:
• Aug. 13 from 10 a.m.-1 p.m., a Jersey Shore Hogs drive at Harley Davidson, 671 Broadway, Long Branch
• Aug. 18 from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. at First Interstate Financial, 30 Avenue of the Commons, Shrewsbury
• Aug. 27 from 10 a.m.-4 p.m., “Rock ’n’ Roll Up Your Sleeve” drive at Two Rivers Theatre Company, 21 Bridge Ave., Red Bank. There will be live music and custom-designed T-shirts for all donors.
The donation process takes about an hour. Donors must also complete a medical history interview and have a mini-physical (temperature, iron, pulse and blood pressure screening). Interested donors must be at least 17 years old, weigh at least 110 pounds and be in good health. All donors must present signature ID at time of registration.
