Driver charged in attack on paramedic, police
LONG BRANCH — A city woman has been charged with attacking a paramedic and a police officer after crashing her vehicle into parked cars last week.
Stamena Mincheva, 28, Bath Avenue, was arrested on July 25 after she allegedly drove her vehicle into two parked cars at approximately 8:50 p.m. on Morris Avenue, according to police reports.
Mincheva was charged with operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol, careless driving, being an unlicensed driver, aggravated assault on medical personnel, aggravated assault on a police officer and obstructing the administration of the law, according to reports.
According to city police, when officers arrived on the scene of the accident, they observed a “good Samaritan” stabilizing Mincheva’s neck while waiting for the Long Branch First Aid Squad and MONOC paramedics.
Paramedics arrived and began treating Mincheva, when she became “combative and assaulted one of the paramedics” by scratching her on the arm, Detective Lt. Bruce Johantgen said.
Mincheva was placed under arrest for assaulting the paramedic and while being processed at the police station, she “became violent and had to be restrained,” according to Johantgen, who said the accused bit the wrist of one of the officers during the struggle.
Mincheva was transported to the Monmouth County jail in Freehold Township and bail was set at $20,000 with no 10 percent option.
