Center announces drives scheduled for August
Central Jersey Blood Center, Shrewsbury, has announced the following local blood drives:
• Aug. 13 from 10 a.m.-1 p.m., a Jersey Shore Hogs drive at Harley-Davidson, 671 Broadway, Long Branch
• Aug. 18 from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. at First Interstate Financial, 30 Avenue of the Commons, Shrewsbury
• Aug. 27 from 10 a.m.-4 p.m., “Rock ‘n’ Roll Up Your Sleeve” drive at Two Rivers Theatre Company, 21 Bridge Ave., Red Bank. There will be live music and custom-designed T-shirts for all donors.
The donation process takes about an hour. Donors must also complete a medical history interview and have a mini-physical (temperature, iron, pulse and blood pressure screening). Interested donors must be at least 17 years old, weigh at least 110 pounds and be in good health. All donors must present signature ID at time of registration.

Auxiliary’s trip to Atlantic City Aug. 20
The Ladies Auxiliary of the Italian American Men’s Association, 195 West End Ave., Long Branch, will host a bus trip to Harrah’s Casino, Atlantic City, Aug. 20 from 2-11 p.m. (approximate). Summer adventure camps begin Aug. 8
Brookdale Community College, Newman Springs Road, Lincroft section of Middletown, will hold “Summer Adventure Camps” beginning Aug. 8. All camps run Aug. 8-12.
The “Little Artists Creative Workshop” is for children age 4 and grades pre-K and kindergarten. The camp will include drawing, painting and sculpting. Class code is XCHLC. “Artists at Work” is for children entering grades two and three, and will teach students how to use watercolor pencils and watercolor crayons. Course code is XCHLC 039.
“Adventures in Art” for children entering grades two and three will feature arts and crafts related to “art in the city” subjects such as tall buildings, cars, and planes. Course code is XCHLC 074. “Kids Investigations” for children entering grades two and three will explore scientific investigations into the world of forensic science. Course code is XCHLC 070. Lecture on meditation,
support groups offered
Monmouth Medical Center, Long Branch, will present a lecture, “Meditation for Inner Calm,” Aug. 3 from 1-3 p.m. at the SCAN Learning Center, Monmouth Mall, Eatontown.
The Parkinson’s disease support group will meet at the center Aug. 4 from 10-11:30 a.m.
“The Benefits of a Low Cholesterol Diet” will be presented Aug. 17 from 1-3 p.m.

Red Cross offers tips for
avoiding summer injuries
The Jersey Coast Chapter of the American Red Cross, Tinton Falls, has issued tips for parents to help protect babies and toddlers from accidents and injuries during summer activities:
• Use window guards and only open windows from the top.
• Always supervise children in or near water.
• Carry a first aid kit.
• Keep emergency phone numbers on cell phone speed dial. Call poison control if suspecting a child has been poisoned.
• Never leave children alone in a closed vehicle.
• Use gates on areas left open, such as staircases.
• Use safe playgrounds. Monitor children while climbing.
• Beware of dogs and other animals outside.
The Jersey Coast Chapter of the American Red Cross offers courses in adult and infant cardiopulmonary resuscitation, automated external defibrillator, first aid, and other life-saving skills.
