The Ocean Township Police Department once again is holding a public auction of accumulated property, including bicycles, on Saturday, May 14, at 10 a.m. in Joe Palaia Park, Whalepond Road (Building and Grounds entrance). Questions may be directed to the Records Bureau between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.

Internationally renowned author Rabbi Harold Kushner will speak at Temple Beth El in Ocean Township on May 15 at 8 p.m. Among his books are “When Bad Things Happen to Good People” and “Living a Life That Matters.” Kushner‘s work focuses on contemporary issues and spiritual complications of ordinary life with compassion and wisdom. Tickets, at $18 in advance and $25 at the door, are available at the Temple Beth El office, (732) 531-0300.

The FoodBank of Monmouth and Ocean Counties’ 14th Annual Culinary Classic will be held May 16 at The Mill at Spring Lake Heights. The event, which will run 5-9 p.m., will showcase the talented chefs working in both counties who donate their time and talent to present an evening of superb food, fine wine and entertainment.

All of the food and wine served is donated by generous participating restaurants and wineries. Door prizes will be given. Only 800 tickets, at $75 per person, are sold for the event. Tickets can be purchased by calling the FoodBank at (732) 918-2600.

The Arc of Monmouth will host its seventh annual Step Up for The Arc Walk on May 21 at Bucks Mill Park in Colts Neck. Major League Baseball pitcher Al Leiter will be the celebrity spokesperson.

Registration for the walk will begin at 9 a.m., accompanied by a continental breakfast. The walk will start at 10 a.m. led by mascot Eugene the Bear. Walkers may choose to walk any distance from a half-mile to five miles. T-shirts will be given to participants who raises at least $50, and prizes will be awarded to walkers who raise $150 or more.

Congregation Brothers of Israel, 250 Park Ave., Elberon, will hold its annual rummage sale May 22 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. The sale includes clothing, furniture, books, jewelry and attic treasures. Prices will be cut after 4 p.m.

Noted author Helen Chantel Pike will speak at the Ocean Township Museum’s May 24 meeting in the auditorium of Old Oakhurst School at 7:15 p.m. Pike will speak about her new book, “Asbury Park’s Glory Days.” She has written several books about the Jersey Shore and her work has appeared in a wide variety of publications.

The Greater Ocean Township Chamber of Commerce will hold its 17th Annual Business & Retail Expo on May 25 from 5-8 p.m. at the Sheraton Eatontown Hotel. For more information, call the chamber office at (732) 728-1888.

St. Luke’s United Methodist Church on Broadway in Long Branch will host a yard sale on May 21 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and all proceeds will benefit the Shalom Food Pantry. For more information, call Carmen Gonzalez or Sylvia Aberdeen at (732) 222-1341.

The National Association of Letter Carriers, in conjunction with the U. S. Postal Service, will collect non-perishable food items such as canned meats and fish, canned soups, juice, pasta, cereal and rice on Saturday to help families in need in the community.

If you wish to donate food, place your donation at your mailbox before the mail carrier arrives.

St. Luke’s United Methodist Church on Broadway will host the Shore Seniors Legends Showcase on Saturday at 535 Broadway in Long Branch at 7 p.m.

The Latino American Association of Monmouth County will host its first reunion of the Latino American Pioneers of Monmouth County on May 21 at the Long Branch Elks Club on the corner of Memorial Parkway and Garfield Avenue from 7 p.m. to 1 a.m.
