The Fair Haven Hurricanes U14 baseball team won the highly competitive Garden State baseball Fall League regular season title. Coming off their Cooperstown Baseball World Championship this past summer, the Hurricanes won the league title with a 7-2 mark and entered the playoffs as the top seed. In the quarterfinal round of the playoffs, they beat the Shrewsbury Thundercanes behind the pitching of Colin Lang, Kevin Marinko and Tim Robinson, and the hitting of Todd Juliano, Taylor Brown and Day Ryan. In the semifinals, played last weekend, the Hurricanes lost to Toms River, 8-5, who went on to win the playoff championship. Fair Haven was the only team to defeat Toms River all season. The Hurricanes received outstanding performances all season from Robert Corsi, Kevin Marinko, Kevin Graf, Chris Landers, Todd Juliano, Tim Robinson, Taylor Brown, John O’Keefe, Dan Ryan, Colin Lang and Jon Scott. The Hurricanes are coached by Jim Graf, Bill Robinson and Dave Corsi.
The Shrewsbury Gymnastics Girls Level C Team competed at Envision Gymnastics in Easthampton, on Sunday, Dec. 5. As a team, they placed third. The individual results were as follows:
In the 8-9 age group, Amy Stevens (River Plaza) placed second in the all-around with a 27.4, taking second on vault (7.6), third on bars (5.5), second on balance beam (6.7), and first on floor (7.6). Bailey Bestle (West Long Branch) placed third in the AA with a 26.85, taking first on vault (7.9), first on bars (6.4), and third on floor (7.15). Delanie Freund (West Long Branch) competed with distinction.
In the 10-11 age group, Jessica Doscher (Little Silver) placed 10th in the AA with a 26.6, taking fourth on vault (7.9), seventh on bars (6.1), and ninth on floor (8.0).
In the 12-13 age group, Erin Hussey (River Plaza) won the AA with a 31.45, taking fourth on vault (8.1), third on bars (7.1), third on balance beam (7.8), and first on floor (8.45). Christine Levantino (Fair Haven) placed 10th on vault (7.3), eighth on balance beam (6.9), and sixth on floor (7.85). Meryll Newman competed with distinction.
The Shrewsbury Gymnastics Girls Level C Team competed in the Jersey Optional Girls Association (JOGA) meet on Dec. 12, which was held at Will-Moor gymnastics in Mt. Laurel. The results were as follows:
In the 8-9 age group, Bailey Bestle (West Long Branch) won the all-around with a score of 27.1. She took second on vault (7.1), first on uneven bars (6.0), first on balance beam (7.0), and second on floor (7.0). Amy Stevens (River Plaza) placed second in the AA with a 25.35. She placed second on bars (5.9), second on beam (6.9), and third on floor (6.85). Delanie Freund (West Long Branch) placed third AA with a 24.3. Delanie placed third on bars (5.5) and third on beam (6.1).
In the 10-11 age group, Jessica Doscher (Little Silver) placed sixth in the AA with a 28.2. She placed second on beam (7.3), seventh on bars (6.3) and ninth on vault (7.5).
In the 12-14 age group, Erin Hussey (River Plaza) placed sixth in the all-around with a 29.2. Erin placed third on floor (7.9), seventh on bars (7.2), fifth on beam (6.9). Meryll Newman (Little Silver) placed seventh on vault (7.5), 10th on floor (7.35), and seventh on Beam (6.8). Christine Levantino (Fair Haven) placed seventh on beam (6.8) and 10th on floor (7.35).
