The nonprofit Jersey Shore Partnership Inc., Sandy Hook, will hold its fall conference “Our Future: Oceans, Estuaries and Wetlands” Nov. 5 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Monmouth University, West Long Branch.
Keynote speaker will be Adm. James D. Watkins, who chaired the U.S. Commission on Ocean Policy. The 16-member Commission recently submitted a report with 212 recommendations for future actions to help preserve and protect oceans and sustain the use of the ocean resources. Watkins will be introduced by Rep. Frank Pallone, (D-N.J.), who will also review action pending in Washington, D.C., on coastal issues.
Watkins also served as president of the Joint Oceanographic Institutions (JOI) in Washington, D.C. While at the JOI, he helped create the Consortium for Oceanographic Research and Education to advance knowledge in ocean sciences to help solve problems in a changing world atmosphere.
