OCEAN TOWNSHIP — A 94-year-old Neptune woman was killed in a three-car collision at the Route 35 and Sunset Avenue intersection on Sept. 16, according to police reports.

The victim, Mary Fischer, was the passenger in a 1985 Oldsmobile being driven by Lucy DiBenedetto, 75, also of Neptune. DiBenedetto’s car was traveling West on Sunset Avenue at approximately 10:24 a.m., according to Detective Lt. Antonio Amodio.

The car collided with two other vehicles — a 2002 Chevrolet pickup driven by Rosa Salome, 26, of Bradley Beach; and a 2004 Cadillac driven by Rudolph Smith, 56, of Asbury Park.

Fischer was pronounced dead at 10:56 a.m. at Jersey Shore Medical Center.

Salome’s vehicle was traveling north on Route 35 and Smith’s vehicle was traveling south on Route 35 when the accident occurred, according to Amodio.

Amodio said the accident occurred when DiBenedetto’s vehicle entered into the intersection, but the cause is still being investigated. He said the traffic light was functioning properly.

The five other people who were passengers in the vehicles involved in the accident were transported to Jersey Shore Medical Center.
