The Monmouth Women’s Basketball League fall/winter season will be held on Sunday nights, September through March. All levels of players welcomed. Sportsmanship is the league rule, and there are 10 players per team. Players must be 25 years old. Sign up for teams and individuals will be Aug. 26 from at 8 p.m. at St. Leo’s gym in Lincroft. The 10th Annual 5K run and annual one-mile kids run will be held on Labor Day (Sept. 6), at the Sheraton Hotel in Eatontown. Start time is 8:45 a.m. Registrations are available from the Eatontown Recreation Office at 47 Broad St. For more information, call (732) 389-7607.
On Sunday, Sept. 12, the Monmouth County park System will sponsor the 21st annual Sprint Triathlon at Seven Presidents Oceanfront Park in Long Branch. A jersey Shore tradition, the triathlon consists of a quarter-mile swim, a 13-mile bike ride and a four-mile run. The event will begin at 7:45 a.m., with race-day check-in for competitors from 6:30-7:30 a.m. In the event of rough surf, a beach run my be substituted for the swim. The registration fee, which includes a commemorative shirt, is $30. All entries my be received by Sept. 5. Field size is limited, and there are no race-day entries. The Riptide girls Select Team from the Monmouth-Ocean Soccer Association, a mix of players from the under-14 and -13 age brackets, completed its summer season with a 6-3-3 record, reaching the semifinals at the Pocono Cup in Monroe County, Pa., and the Central Jersey Invitational at Fort Dix, and finishing second at the Hackettstown Blast Tournament. Team members included Alanna Ekdahl, Tara Troisi and Kassie Jordan of Freehold; Christine Lee, Millstone; Kathlyn Herrick and Allison Linnell, Colts Neck; Nikki O‚Connell, Middletown; Meghan Schneider, Hazlet; Sam Marxen, Red Bank; Olivia Cabasso, Allenhurst; Ashley Vieira, Long Branch; Maggie Porter, Neptune; Diana Mardini and Caitlin Carey, Brick; Lisa Faraci, Cranbury; and Angela Lenzo, Jen Pikus, and Sammie Doutt, East Windsor. The coach was Bill Schneider.

The Jersey Shore Lightning Basketball Club, based in the Oceanport-Long Branch area, is seeking 1-2 quality players born after Aug. 31, 1993, in any grade, or boys in the fifth grade born after Aug. 31, 1992, to join and participate on our U-11 team in the AAU Division 1 National tournament in July in Cocoa Beach, Fla.
