Respect your neighbors, turn down the lights
A great many people have been moving into Monmouth County for a long time. Some have brought bad behavior with them.
I am referring in this case to excessive lighting outside homes.
Everyone appreciates the safety and security of an entrance that is lit. There is not such clear rational, however, for the lighting all over a yard.
It is very inconsiderate to have a spot light shining beyond the borders of your property. If the bulbs in your lights illuminate the whole neighborhood something is wrong. People need to lower the wattage and be aware of the aim of the fixtures.
It makes no sense for a light to shine on to surrounding homes, into their windows. Newer homes seem to be brighter than ever. People want to bring the "bright lights, big city" to the suburbs. It is a sad waste of energy due ignorance and laziness. Do we need the government to step in and regulate this?
It may be the best long-term solution to mitigate the careless light pollution. There should definitely be tougher standards for commercial and business lighting. We need to be aware of these quality of life issues.
People need to know that reckless pollution of all kinds is unacceptable. If we do not work to respect our fellow citizens and community there are negative consequences.
