Andrew Casta, 17, of Ocean Township, has been named a New Jersey state finalist for the 2003 Wendy’s High School Heisman Award. Vasta has been recognized as one of the best scholar-athlete citizens of New Jersey. The competition, sponsored by Wendy’s International and the National Association of Secondary School Principals, is rigorous, with 14,150 scholar-athletes across the United States nominated for the award. Vasta has placed among the top 1,020 students in the nation and will compete among other finalists to be named a national finalist.

Andrew, the son of Candice and Frank Vasta, is currently ranked second in his class. He has represented Ocean Township High School in many mathematics and science competitions and has been named an AP Scholar and National Merit Semifinalist. He is a class officer and treasurer on the National Honor Society. Andrew has earned varsity letters in cross-country, track and swimming, where he currently holds the school record in the backstroke. This past summer he represented Monmouth County and New Jersey at the National Lifeguarding Championships.
