Monmouth Medical Center, Long Branch, has announced that Angelina Klim has been named the Dr. Lester A. Barnett Nurse of the Month for August. The Eatontown resident is a behavioral health nurse at the center.

Prior to joining the medical center in 1995, she spent 10 years at Raritan Bay Medical Center, Perth Amboy Division. She received her nursing degree at San Juan de Dios Hospital School of Nursing, Pasay City, Philippines.

Monmouth also announced that Robin Henson has been named Employee of the Month for August. The Long Branch resident has worked in the center’s pharmacy department for 26 years and is currently a material management specialist.

Henson, a graduate of Long Branch High School, joined Monmouth as a senior pharmacy technician.

The center recently earned accreditation form the American College of Radiation Oncology (ACRO) making the hospital the first in Monmouth County to receive the national recognition of quality, safety and appropriateness of its radiation therapy.

To earn the three-year status, Monmouth completed the three-month ACRO process of submission of all personnel qualifications, board certifications, and continuing education requirements.

ReMax/Champions, Ocean, has announced the addition of Deborah Smith to its staff as broker associate. Smith specializes in the listing and sale of residential properties and relocations in Monmouth County.

A resident of West Long Branch, she has been licensed for eight years, and was previously affiliated with Weichert. Smith was named to the New Jersey Association of Realtors Circle of Excellence for 1998 and 2000-02 at the bronze level.

Fort Monmouth was recently designated as the New Jersey Center for Defense Technologies and Security Readiness by Governor James E. McGreevey and U.S. Representatives Rush Holt and Frank Pallone Jr.

The designation serves to underscore the role Fort Monmouth plays in defense of the nation, both at home and in foreign lands. It can also enhance funding opportunities for homeland security applications.

Systems developed at Fort Monmouth play a direct role in aiding troops in the war against terrorism, with its Firefinder radar used during Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Other projects developed or under way at the fort include jammers and shortstop systems which cause weapons to miss targets and detonate prematurely, and new communication technologies and capabilities to aid the state police, New Jersey National Guard, Coast Guard, and local police in prevention, detection and response to threats against critical infrastructures.

Greater Ocean Township Chamber of Commerce has announced its "Adopt-a-Family" holiday program for 2003 with the objective of fulfilling the wishes of the children of an adopted family, rather than the entire family.

Ocean Township-based organizations, business, and individual residents may participate in an effort to help less fortunate individuals. Monetary donations will also be accepted if residents cannot "adopt" a child in a family, but still want to contribute.

The Chamber of Commerce needs to know exactly how many residents, businesses or organizations are willing to take part, in order to begin the campaign; donations are usually given in mid-December.

For more information, call Caryn Rahill, chairperson, at (732) 493-0296, or Marsha Samitt at the Chamber office (732) 728-1888.
