The local Associated Humane Society, 2960 Shafto Road, Tinton Falls, in conjunction with the ASPCA and Petfinder.com has declared June "Adopt a Shelter Cat Month."

During June, the society will be open seven days a week from noon to 5 p.m.

The donation to adopt a cat is $75. During June, the AHS will offer the following free when adopting a cat: microchips implanted to identify the cat or kitten, feline distemper shot, coloring books for children, passes to Popcorn Park Zoo, spaying and neutering, cat carrier, collar, and ID tag. Also included will be free 60-day medical care at the vet of the donor’s choice when enrolled in the "Shelter Cat Program."

‘Laugh for Health of It’

The Leon Hess Cancer Center at Monmouth Medical Center, 300 Second Ave., Long Branch, will observe the 16th annual National Cancer Survivors Day June 26 at 6:30 p.m. The event will be held at the center’s Borden auditorium.

Guest speaker and cancer survivor Hedda Matza-Houghton will present "Celebrate Life, Laugh for the Health of It." She will also lead attendees through "lighthearted" exercises to relieve stress. Refreshments and giveaways will be provided. For more information, call Jill Brown at (732) 923-6580.
